If you choose to use our Services, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The Personal Information that we collect is used for providing and improving the Services. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.

What we collect

When you first register for a crumbs account, and when you use the Services, we collect some personal information about you such as:

  • Account information: To create an account with Us, you must provide your name, a username, a password and an email address. As well as other optional profile information.
  • Content you submit: We collect the content you submit to the Services. This includes your posts, comments, messages with other users (including private conversations and public ones), and your reports and other communications with us. Your content may include text, links, images and gifs.
  • Actions you take: We collect information about the actions you take when using the Services. This includes your interactions with content, like voting, saving and reporting. It also includes your interactions with other users, such as starting a conversation, reporting and blocking.
  • Log data: We may collect data and information (through third party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Services, the time and date of your use of the Services, and other statistics.

Our service providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals for the following reasons:

  1. To facilitate our Services;
  2. To provide the Services on our behalf; or
  3. To assist us in analysing how our Services are used.

These third parties have access to your Personal Information to perform tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

Advertising and analytics partners

To help keep crumbs free and to measure performance, we work with advertising and analytics partners, including Google AdMob and Unity (including ironSource/LevelPlay). These partners may collect or receive information from your device when our app is used. Depending on your settings and your location, the categories of data may include:

  • Device identifiers (for example, Advertising ID on Android, and IDFA on iOS if you grant tracking permission), device type, OS version, app version, language, and screen size;
  • IP address, approximate location (derived from IP), and coarse device information for fraud prevention and ad delivery;
  • App interaction data such as ad impressions, clicks, session duration, and crash/performance data;
  • Information necessary to detect invalid activity, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

We use this data to deliver and cap ads, measure ad performance, improve our Services, and, where permitted, to personalise ads to be more relevant to you.

Learn more from our partners:

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR/UK GDPR): For personalised advertising and the use of device identifiers for ad purposes, we rely on your consent. If you do not consent, you will receive only non‑personalised (contextual) ads, and device identifiers will not be used for ad personalisation.
  • United States (including California): To the extent that ad sharing may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA), you may opt out as described below. We honor applicable signals where feasible, such as Global Privacy Control.
  • Other regions: Where consent is not required, we may process limited data for legitimate interests such as security, fraud prevention, frequency capping, and measurement, while providing you with appropriate opt‑out choices.

Platform requirements (Apple and Google)

  • Apple iOS (App Tracking Transparency): We request your permission before accessing the IDFA for tracking across apps and websites. If you decline, we do not use the IDFA for personalised advertising. You can change this anytime in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking on your device.
  • Google Play (Advertising ID and Data Safety): Our app may access the Advertising ID to support ads, analytics, and fraud prevention in accordance with Google Play policies. On Android, you can control ad personalisation and reset or delete your Advertising ID via Settings > Privacy > Ads (device menus may vary by manufacturer and OS version).

Your choices and ad controls

  • In‑app choices: Where available, use our in‑app settings to opt in/out of personalised ads. If you are in the EEA/UK/CH, we will present a consent prompt; you may change your choice at any time via the in‑app settings.
  • Device settings (iOS): Manage tracking permission in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. You can also limit Apple advertising personalisation in Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising.
  • Device settings (Android): Turn off ad personalisation and reset or delete your Advertising ID in Settings > Privacy > Ads (or similar path on your device).
  • California (CCPA/CPRA): If applicable, you may exercise your right to opt out of “sale”/“sharing” of personal information for cross‑context behavioral advertising by using in‑app options.

If you opt out or decline consent, you may still see ads, but they will be non‑personalised and based on contextual information (e.g., the content you are viewing) rather than your activity.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers and extensions offer a Do Not Track (DNT) setting or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. While there is no uniform standard for responding to DNT, we endeavor to honor GPC signals where required by applicable law, particularly for opt‑out of sale/sharing under certain U.S. state laws.

Advertising and minors

Our Services are not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. We do not serve interest‑based ads to minors and take steps to ensure our ad partners apply appropriate age‑related restrictions.

International data transfers

We may transfer your information to partners and service providers located outside of your country, including to the United States and other countries where our partners (such as Google and Unity, including ironSource/LevelPlay) operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum to protect your information.

How we use your information

We will use your information to provide, maintain and improve the Services; research and develop new services and help protect the safety of crumbs and our users.

We will also use your information to send you technical notices, updates, security alerts and other support and administrative messages.

The content that you submit, such as posts, comments, poll votes, likes and views will be available to other users and any visitors of our Services.

Users visiting your profile will be able to see your activities, and any other text or images you choose to share on your profile.

Security

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Our Services may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or Services.

Children's Privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 18. In the case we discover that a child under 18 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to take necessary actions.

Children's Safety

At crumbs, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE) and any form of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

We strictly prohibit any content or conduct that sexually exploits, abuses, or endangers children. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Any content that depicts, encourages, or facilitates child sexual abuse or exploitation.
  • Any attempt to solicit, groom, or engage minors in inappropriate conversations or activities.
  • The sharing, storage, or transmission of any CSAM.
  • The use of the platform for the recruitment or facilitation of child trafficking or exploitation.

We implement the following measures in order to ensure compliance and to prevent CSAE:

  • Automated content moderation: we use AI to detect any content that violates our terms and conditions, and this policy.
  • User reporting: our platform includes a user-friendly, in-app feature that allows users to report concerning content or behaviour. All reports are reviewed promptly by our Trust and Safety team, with appropriate action taken as needed on the offending material as well as the responsible accounts.

This policy complies with UK Legislation including the Protection of Children Act 1978 and the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Any confirmed CSAM is reported to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and to the relevant UK law enforcement authorities.

For any child safety concerns, you can contact our dedicated safety team at safety@crumbs.social
